The Story

It was a hot day in the summer of 2006 and the cement truck was due to arrive so that foundations could be poured for the new

complex at the rear of De Dreve...I was in a ponder as to how I would lay and level the cement by myself, as

I had no one to help at that time, even though I had 4 pairs of working boots for any of my customers who would have liked to help,

but because of the hot weather, they preferred to drink my cold beer!!!!

It just happened that a group of Australians were in the de Dreve having a drink in my beer garden, when one of them

heard I was having problems finding help.  One of the group asked me if he remembered me from a previous visit, I said 'yes of course'

and with that Rob Clark (Australian)  said to me that he would arrange a working party to help me with the foundations..and to my surprise

he gathered up his family to help..

I could not believe such people would put their hands up,

but when I found out that the group were all Australians, I then could understood their willingness for them to lend a

hand in the Aussie spirit of things, just like the diggers during WW1, mates helped mates...

So all was settled, the group started the form work in readiness for the cement truck..Now to everyone's surprise the cement

truck arrived and the colours of the truck were the same as the Australian Colours, Green & Gold...and at the

end of the day, with a couple of rest breaks (smokos) we finished the cement slab for the new complex.

So that's the story on how the ANZAC REST got it's name;

because a bunch of high spirited Aussies lent me a hand when I needed it...

Thanks team I will never forget you....Johan
