Harry Patch - Rest in Peace

Henry John "Harry" Patch (17 June 1898 – 25 July 2009) — known as "the Last Tommy" — was a British supercentenarian, briefly the oldest man in Europe and the last surviving soldier to have fought in the trenches of the First World War.[1] Patch was, with Claude Choules, one of the last two surviving British veterans of the First World War, and along with Frank Buckles and John Babcock, one of the last four worldwide. He was, at the age of 111 years, 38 days, the verified third-oldest man in the world, the oldest man in Europe and one of the 70 oldest men ever.

Important News

Johan wrote a  letter to the Belgian Embassy in London after a lecture and slide show “Beneath Flanders Fields 1915-1918” given by Mr. Franky Bostyn at the Guards’ Chapel, Birdcage Walk, London on Wednesday, 21 January 2009.

Johan was there and observed how Mr Bostyn used his pictures, his drawings and his work to colour his lecture, without any mention of a source.

After writing to all the organisations connected to the lecture, he still has not  received any official answer of his letter. That’s why this letter has now been published on the website..

ANZAC REST - De Dreve Polygon Wood

Cafe - The Tavern Dreve already opened its doors in 1972 and is located at the edge of the Polygon Wood. Given its location,

De Dreve is an excellent base for a big walk in the woods. After doing a proper walk, you can enjoy a good local beer, a homemade pancake,

an ice cream and so much more, When the case arrives you will be immediately immersed in an atmosphere reminiscent of the "great war", the walls are adorned with numerous photos,

not difficult to know that Johan is passionate by the First World War. He is therefore at the root of many excavations and reconstructions of dug-outs and bunkers in the area.

If the workload permits or by appointment, Johan always prepares a word to explain this and possibly accompanied by images and sound via projection on large screen.
